The critics are declaring a crisis in electronic music, but the stagnation is really only affecting the music industry. Labels, but mostly artists alone, are searching and founding new distribution channels, until recently passive consumers are thanks to the social network possibilities becoming prosumers and mass media, the traditional quality filters, are trying to grasp the situation and redefine their role – suddenly, thanks to the environment changes, there’s just too much music. Hand in hand with the amount of content, the form of live performances is also growing: after the “bureaucrats on the stage” wave, there’s a whole lot of kids in neon tights with minidisks dancing, together with their direct anti-thesis, the civil-looking performers on acoustic and analogue gear – and music journalists are trying to define microtrends that are already over before they really started. Sperm Festival 2008: Confuse is trying to map, or at least outline, this swarming and confusing situation on the current art playground, following new strands and trends on electronic music and visual scene.
