Frank Bretschneider
Frank Bretschneider, musician and director living in Berlin, is known for his sense of perfectionism that defines his work with sound as „abstract analogue pointilism“. Frank, born in 1956 in former Eastern Germany, originally studied graphic design and classical painting, but started experimenting with cassette tapes in 1984. With Olaf Bender started a record label Rastermusic and performed at festivals like Ars Electronica, Cut & Splice, Mutek, Offf, Sónar, Steirischer Herbst or Transmediale, famous for their blending club music with technological, sound and visual creations, that very well defines Bretschneider’s building foundations. Detailed and layered music is coupled with its own echoes on the film screen – his performances are not about the sound alone, but about the perfect complementing of music and visuals that clearly declare and state the concept for the live performances’ audience. His last album Rhythm, represents minimalistic composition of slowly building vibes through repetitive structure of sounds and their equally important absence, thanks to which the it’s regarded by many journalists and magazines as one of the records of 2007. Rhythm will be presented live at Frank’s debut Prague performance at Sperm Festival.
