The German duo Jan St. Werner and Andi Tom have been on stage since 1993, being the legends and pioneers of electronic music, especially the IDM genre. Their music varies from techno and trance influenced to experimental to the combination of both approaches on their last albums. Along with many music experiments, they tried to bring classical instruments into their life performances too.
The 90s brought their studio cooperation with Stereolab followed by extensive tour. The album “Dots and loops” released by Stereolab as well as EP “Cache Coeur Naif” produced by Mouse on Mars shows significant traces of their mutual liaison. Later on, they have been also participating with the former Kraftwerk member, percussionist Wolfgang Flur, on a project called Yamo.
Despite the fact Mouse on Mars own their own label Sonig, their last album “Varcharz” has been released on Ipecac (Fantomas, The Melvilns, Otto von Schirach) belonging to Mike Patton. After the previous - more relaxed and publicly acceptable album Radical Connector, Varcharz is a comeback to experimental roots.
